The importance of seaweed in our natural world

  • Hunter Council Chamber, Level 2, Hunter Building Gate 2, Kelburn Parade Wellington, 6012 New Zealand (map)

Professor Joe Zuccarello will discuss his research on algal diversity, genetic variation, reproductive biology and evolution.

Description

While important in many ways, seaweeds are poorly studied and much remains to be discovered. Basic biological understanding, even as basic as 'what species is that', is needed before other progress can be made.

In this lecture, Professor Joe Zuccarello from the School of Biological Sciences will present his research on algal diversity, genetic variation, reproductive biology, and evolution. He will highlight how basic biology is essential for understanding our natural world and its evolution, and why universities are perfect places to pursue these goals.
