Sharing your community knowledge
There are many different knowledge systems that can help us understand what’s changing in our oceans. Community who have lived near and have a relationship with our coasts are often the first to notice changes. If you have a story or observation to share, we are keen to know.
Here at Love Rimurimu community are a key part of what we do, and what we want to build - With this in mind we have piloted a community Seaweed Monitoring programme known as The Kelpers. This team have been learning free-diving, monitoring and seaweed ID skills to help observe our seaweed forests.
Now we’ve had our first plant-outs they’re helping to gather plant-out observations, and working with our Community Science Lead to help collect baseline data in other areas.
The data will help us understand changes over time. If you have observations you wish to share or notice something strange in your area please get it touch.
If you are unsure about the name of the seaweed you observed, download our Rimurimu ID Guide
